Week 4 NFL Picks 2012

posted in: 2012 NFL Picks | 0
Week 4 is in the books and made for another exciting week of football; most notably the monday night game between Green Bay and Seattle. I am sure by this point everyone has been privileged enough to see the “touchdown” catch to win that game, it should have been a Green Bay interception to end the game 12-7 Green Bay. That was just about all it took for the NFL to settle their contract dispute between the actual referees and man wasn’t it just beautiful on thursday night to see them back on the field. The game was called exactly how it should have been.
After this week I am still dancing around even with a 2-2 outing last week again to bring me too a 6-6 record on the year with picks. Lets at a look at the teams I like this week.
GAME 1

CAROLINA PANTHERS   VS ATLANTA FALCONS (-7.5)

The first game I choose this week is the hottest in the NFL and right now looking like the best team in the league after starting 3-0. The Falcons are looking simply unstoppable, Matt Ryan is averaging almost 300 yards and 3 TD passes a game. He has made this offense the best in the league this year too date beating there opponents by an average of 15 points on the year and I don’t expect this weekend to be any different. They are playing at home and the Falcons have had the panthers number  for the last 4 years at home. Expect today to be no different. Matt Ryan is going to have a great day throwing to Roddy White and Julio Jones, connecting with these guys early and often and making this 16th ranked Carolina pass defense look unprepared and not to be discussed with the likes of this Falcons team. At the beginning of the year I mentioned how much I liked Atlanta to play better than expectations; look for that to continue this week and for them to improve to a 4-0 record at home in high flying fashion. Cam Newton inexperience will show again this week and he will be pressured often into making quick decisions turning into costly mistakes. Atlanta ranks 13th overall in defense this year in total yards allowed, look for them to improve on there numbers today.
FINAL SCORE – PANTHERS 17 – FALCONS 31
GAME 2

SAN DEIGO CHARGERS (-1.5) VS KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

The second game I really like this week is the for Chargers to march into Kansas City and stomp all over the Chiefs on their home turf. The Chargers looked awful in their loss to Atlanta at home last week 24-3, look for them to turn that around with a big win away and to cool down the Chiefs after there exciting overtime win in New Orleans last week. I like Philip Rivers to get back on track this week and pierce his way into the secondary. Ryan Matthews is finally healthy again and although he has had some fumbling issues since he came into the league he can still be mentioned among the most explosive backs in the league with his speed and vision. The Chargers are also 8-5 against the spread in the last 10 years when coming off a loss and favourites on the road.
The Chiefs did put out a dramatic win last week but if it wasn’t for Jamal Charles coming out party they wouldn’t have stood a chance. This man ran all over the Saints secondary and doesn’t look like he is coming off knee surgery anymore. He will have a harder task today facing the 4th ranked rush defense in the leauge. This will be the key to the game. I like this game to be close until the final quarter when the Chargers pull away and come out with a win
FINAL SCORE – CHARGERS 27 – CHIEFS 20
GAME 3

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (-3)   VS ST. LOUIS RAMS

This divisional matchup is going to be a close one but when its all said and done I think the Rams are going to be winners on Sunday. They have been one of the interesting teams this year coming out and looking nothing like the 2-14 Rams last year. They are playing strong defensively and can’t be count out of a single game they have played this year. They are 2-1 against the spread this year and if that isn’t enough over the last century St. Louis has a record of 6-1 before playing the Cardinals (next week). I like for there defense to do a good job locking up Marshawn Lynch and preventing any sort of beast mode this weekend. St. Louis is going to do a great job holding onto the ball, not only keeping possession but there offense on the field and control of the clock. This Seahawks team is going to have a hard time pulling out a win today against this Rams team, there isn’t replacement referees to hand them the game in the final seconds anymore; they will actually have to win this game fair and square and I just can’t see that happening. Chalk up a win for the Rams and to continue to keep this division one of the closest in the NFL.
FINAL SCORE – SEATTLE 21 – ST LOUIS 28
GAME 4

WASHINGTON REDSKINS VS TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS (-2.5)

The last game I will be looking at this week is the Redskins against the Buccaneers. With both of these team’s sitting at 1-2 it will be interesting to see how they perform this week. I like Tampa to take this game simply because they are a team that plays much better at home and have not really been out of a game all year. They should have won week 2 in New York until they  had their forth quarter meltdown against the Gaint’s and allowed them to cap off a comeback with a win. Last weeks game in Dallas was anybodies game until late when the Dallas defense proved to be the difference and win the game. This game will be similar to last weeks game and I look for the Bucs defense and crowd to do a good job at bottling up RG3 and make his inexperience show. After 3 weeks Tampa Bay has the best run defense in the league; this will surely help. Josh Freeman is going to have his was with this redskin secondary and I like his to get at least 300 yards and 2 TD’s in his second outing this season at home. If your unsure Tampa then look no further than the fact they have yet too lose against the spread this year whether they are the dog or the favorite. Look for this trend to continue and Tampa Bay to pull out a win today at home.
FINAL SCORE  – REDSKINS 17 – BUCCANEERS 31
